It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2nd Northern European Conference on Travel Medicine (NECTM), to be held in Marina Congress Center in Helsinki on 21-24 May 2008. The conference is organised by a coalition of European travel medicine and international health societies and organisations as continuation of the very successful 1st NECTM conference held in Edinburgh. The conference is also following the long tradition of the Scandinavian Forum for Travel Medicine.

The scientific programme will cover the current hot and all time favourite topics in travel health. Special themes will include arctic medicine and traveller’s health in the Baltic countries and Russia. In addition to joint plenary sessions the programme will emphasise interactive learning and practical pre- and post-travel health issues.

The social programme of the conference will combine Finnish tradition in architecture, music and dance with the unique national obsession for sauna. The very long daylight hours in May will ensure that visitors will have ample opportunity to explore the attractions of Helsinki, the white maritime capital of Finland. Those willing to extend their stay can also explore other parts of Finland or cities of Tallinn, St. Petersburg and Stockholm in the neighbouring countries, all within an easy distance from Helsinki.
